EU Settlement Scheme Settled Status

What is the EU Settlement Scheme Settled Status

The EU Settlement Scheme enables citizens from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein to continue living in the UK following the UK’s departure from the EU on 31 January 2020.

EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein citizens who were living in the UK by 31 December 2020 and their eligible family members can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme, should they wish to continue living in the UK beyond the end of the ‘grace period’ (30 June 2021).

Applicants will be able to apply for settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme if they have lived in the UK for 5 years and meet the definition of ‘continuous qualifying period’ under the Immigration Rules.

Applicants who are Swiss citizens and have spent more than 4 years continuously outside the UK will lose their settled status. Settled status for everyone else under the scheme will be lost after a continuous absence of more than 5 years.

Settled Status

The deadline to apply under the scheme was 30 June 2021, however there is provision to make an application after the deadline in specific cases where the Home Office considers there are 'reasonable grounds' for missing the deadline.

Family members can also make an application.

How Much Does it Cost?

There is no fee to pay for an application under the EU Settlement Scheme.

Applicants are not required to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge.
