What is a Graduate Visa?

A Graduate visa enables international students who have successfully completed a course in the UK to work or look for work after their studies for a period of time.

What Are the Key Eligibility Requirements for a Graduate Visa?

In order to successfully apply for a Graduate visa, applicants must meet the following key requirements:

  • Must be in the UK;
  • Must have been last sponsored by a student sponsor which is a higher education provider, and they must have notified the Home office that the applicant has successfully completed an eligible course of study; and
  • Must have been either awarded or will be awarded a UK bachelor’s degree, a UK postgraduate degree, or successfully completed a prescribed qualification.

How Long is a Graduate Visa Valid for?

A Graduate visa is usually granted for 2 years. Applicants who have a PHD or other doctoral qualification are granted a 3 year visa. This visa cannot be extended and does not lead to settlement, however applicants wanting to stay in the UK for longer, may be able to switch to a different visa i.e., a Skilled Worker visa.

Are Dependants Eligible?

The partner and children of applicants who joined them on their Student visa are eligible to apply.

How Long Does it Take For a Decision to be Made?

The Home Office usually process a Graduate visa application within 8 weeks.

If eligible, applicants will be advised whether they can apply to get a decision faster. The Home Office charge additional fees for these priority services.

How Much Does it Cost?

The Home Office fee is £715.

Applicants will also have to pay the immigration health surcharge, which is usually £624 per year.
