What is a Frontier Worker Permit?

A Frontier Worker Permit enables citizens from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein who work in the UK but primarily live outside the UK, to travel to the UK for work purposes.

What Are the Key Eligibility Requirements for a Frontier Worker Permit?

In order to successfully apply for a Frontier Worker Permit, applicants must meet the following key requirements:

  • Must be from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein;
  • Must live outside the UK; and
  • Must live outside the UK; and

How Long is a Frontier Worker Permit Valid for?

A Frontier Worker permit will last for 5 years, or 2 years if an applicant applied with ‘retained’ status.

Can a Scale-Up Worker Visa be Extended?

Applicants can apply to renew their permit however this is not a route to settlement.

Can Dependants Join or Accompany Frontier Workers?

Unfortunately, family members are not covered by this route. However, family members may be eligible to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme for settled or pre-settled status.

How Much Does it Cost?

There is no fee to pay for an application under the EU Settlement Scheme.

Applicants are not required to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge.
