What Are the Key Eligibility Requirements for a Overseas Domestic Worker visa?

In order to successfully apply for an Overseas Domestic Worker visa, applicants must meet the following key requirements:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age;
  • Must have been working for their employer for at least 1 year;
  • Must work in the same household as their employer or one they use regularly;
  • Must intend to travel to the UK with their employer, their partner or children;
  • Must intend to work as a full-time domestic worker in a UK household their employer will live in;
  • Must be able to support themselves in the UK; and
  • May need to provide a tuberculosis (TB) certificate depending on which country the applicant resides in.

How Long is an Overseas Domestic Worker Visa Valid for?

The maximum time period applicants can stay in the UK with an Overseas Domestic Worker visa is 6 months. Applicants must leave the UK before the expiry of their visa.

Can an Overseas Domestic Visa be Extended?

It is not possible to extend an Overseas Domestic Worker visa under the current version of the Immigration Rules. However, for applicants who first applied for an Overseas Domestic Worker visa on or before 5 April 2012, the rules are very much relaxed and allows them to extend their visa every 12 months. Once they have lived in the UK for 5 years, they may be eligible to apply to settle in the UK permanently.
